How do I record with a camera app and Teleprompt Overlay?
Start the Teleprompt Overlay reader, place the script near your camera lens, then open the camera app you already use. The floating panel usually stays out of the camera feed, but a screen recording or screen share can include it.

Prepare the script
Create or import your script before starting the camera. Use type size, contrast, and a fixed speed that lets you look near the lens instead of constantly chasing the text.
If you use voice scrolling, test it in the same room and microphone setup. The feature uses local sound level and runs only at the configured speed while the voice gate is open.
Open the right kind of overlay
On iPhone or iPad, use the Picture in Picture script panel. On Android, first grant Draw over other apps; without that system permission, Android will not allow a panel over your camera app.
The Mac floating-panel experience is currently internal beta only for Apple silicon on macOS 13 or later. A browser reader stays in its own tab and cannot overlay a separate camera application.
Make a test recording
Open your preferred camera app after the script panel is ready. Move the text close to the lens, record a short clip, and review it for eye line, readability, and audio before recording the full take.
The panel is normally a visual layer on your screen rather than part of the camera feed. That is why a normal camera recording usually stays clean.
Questions and answers
- Will Teleprompt Overlay appear in my video?
- A normal camera feed usually excludes the panel. Screen recordings and screen shares can include it, so test the capture method you use.
- Can I use it with any camera app?
- Native overlays can remain above another app where the platform permits it. Android requires Draw over other apps, and browser tabs cannot overlay other apps.
- Do I need voice scrolling to record?
- No. Fixed-speed reading is available and has no one-hour cap.
- Why should I make a test clip?
- A test verifies the text position, eye line, audio, and whether your chosen capture method shows the overlay.
